Many freelance developers, designers or agencies go with the flow from client to client, referral to referral. This is great, but sometimes it is good to stop and think in the long term. Many of us know what car we would like to buy, but do not think about the clients we want to work with. Who is he and why he should work with you? Where are you going and how do you differentiate from the competition? The marketing (or buyers) persona helps to answer some of these questions
It is a representation of your ideal customer based on your research, past projects etc.
Some of the benefits of having a defined marketing persona :
help you build rapport with potential customers since you thought about his problems.
help you position yourself in the right places.
build your messaging that truly resonates.
Despite the fancy name, creating a marketing persona does need to be hard and complex. It takes some time to think and organize though.
